The Chicago Blackhawks have been active ahead of Friday’s NHL Trade Deadline, making a few moves to sell pieces off in exchange for draft picks. With this being a seller’s market at the moment, it makes sense for the team to be open to moving players for whom the franchise does not see a future with. However, there is a bit of a downer if you are expecting the Blackhawks to continue trading away players. Let’s take a look at the latest update surrounding Chicago.
The Chicago Blackhawks could be done making trades

Scott Powers of The Athletic is reporting that the Blackhawks could be officially finished making trades ahead of Friday’s deadline. Below is the update that he wrote:
“The Blackhawks could be done for the deadline. They certainly don’t feel the same urgency they did earlier in the week. They thought they could utilize their two remaining cap retention spots and pile up some more early-round picks. They were able to do that by acquiring a first- and second-round pick from the Edmonton Oilers for Connor Murphy and Jason Dickinson.
“It’s possible the Blackhawks could still move Nick Foligno and Ilya Mikheyev in the next few days. If the Columbus Blue Jackets or someone came calling for Foligno, it’d be up to him if he wanted to be dealt. The Blackhawks will show him that courtesy. With Mikheyev, the Blackhawks were hoping to re-sign him, but he’s rejected their offer so far. There’s still an outside chance that could happen before the deadline. And if he doesn’t re-sign or get traded by the deadline Friday, there is always the possibility that both sides take the additional time to negotiate some more.”
The Blackhawks have made a few trades this season that have helped them acquire draft capital for upcoming drafts. With the team out of the playoff picture and hitting the reset button on the 2025-26 season, it will be intriguing to see if a contending team can come up with an offer that makes them reconsider.
