The Buffalo Bills added depth to their defense on Thursday, signing former Chicago Bears<\/span><\/a> safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson to a one-year deal. According to NFL.com Insider Tom Pelissero<\/span><\/a>, Gardner-Johnson and his agents, Kevin Conner and Robert Brown, signed a $6 million contract. <\/span><\/p>\n

The former Super Bowl champion \u2014 2024 with the Philadelphia Eagles \u2014 Gardner-Johnson had three sacks, 35 solo tackles and four pass defenses in 10 games with the Bears. <\/span><\/p>\n

Gardner-Johnson will join the seventh-best defense in 2025 (293.1 yards<\/span><\/a>) and add some veteran leadership on defense.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Bills have a handful of safeties on their roster, with Sam Franklin and Cole Bishop as the main options. Safeties Wande Owens and Damar Hamlin also offer depth.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Gardner-Johnson won’t just help the Bills on defense, but being a former Super Bowl champion could help inspire the locker room. The Bills failed to reach the big game last season after losing to the Denver Broncos in overtime in the AFC Divisional Round (33-30).<\/span><\/p>\n

The Bills had their best chance to win the Super Bowl in 2025, with the Kansas City Chiefs taking a step back after dominating for over a decade.<\/p>\n
