Chicago Blackhawks Face Long Playoff Odds for 2025-2026 Season

The Numbers Paint a Grim Picture

Chicago enters the 2025-2026 season with +1600 odds to make the playoffs at BetMGM. The sportsbook sets -5000 odds on missing the postseason. This translates to an 18% probability of playoff hockey and an 82% chance of sitting out again.

FanDuel Illinois and their Stanley Cup futures tell the same story. Chicago sits at +50000 to win it all. That’s a 0.2% implied probability. No other NHL team has worse championship odds.

The Central Division odds reinforce this outlook. Chicago holds +35000 odds to win their division. The betting market sees little chance of improvement from last place.

Five Years Without Playoff Hockey

Chicago’s last playoff appearance came in 2020. They beat Edmonton in the qualifying round. Vegas eliminated them in five games after that. The drought has stretched through five full seasons since then.

The 2024-2025 campaign ended with 61 points. Only San Jose finished worse. Chicago’s -70 goal differential ranked 31st among 32 teams. They scored 2.73 goals per game, ranking 26th in the league.

Road games proved particularly brutal. The team went 10-26-5 away from home. That tied for second-worst road performance across the NHL.

Budget Approaches for Blackhawks Season Betting

Smart bettors track the Chicago Blackhawks’ season without overspending by using promotional offers from various sportsbooks. FanDuel provides new user bonuses worth $150 in bet credits, while the betmgm bonus code unlocks $1,500 in risk-free bets for first-time players. DraftKings runs weekly deposit matches that add 20% to betting accounts. These promotions let fans place season-long wagers on Chicago’s playoff chances without depleting their bankrolls.

Setting strict betting limits helps manage costs across an 82-game season. Allocating $10 per week for Blackhawks bets keeps total spending under $420 for the entire campaign. Spreading bets across player props, game totals, and futures markets provides action throughout the season. Taking advantage of free bet promotions and deposit bonuses stretches betting funds further while maintaining regular action on Chicago’s games.

Bedard Carries Heavy Load

Connor Bedard remains Chicago’s brightest spot. He scored 67 points in his second season. On January 14, 2025, he became the 24th teenager in NHL history to reach 100 career points. His -36 plus-minus rating shows the team’s problems extend beyond individual talent.

Ryan Donato led the team with 31 goals and added 31 assists for 62 points. He and Bedard were the only Chicago Blackhawks to reach 60 points. Tyler Bertuzzi scored 23 goals but posted a -39 plus-minus, worst on the team. Ilya Mikheyev added 20 goals.

Spencer Knight takes over as the starting goalie after Chicago acquired him in the offseason. The team needed stability in the net. Knight represents their best option between the pipes since the playoff years.

Draft Picks and Development Pipeline for Chiddcago Blackhawks

Chicago selected Anton Frondell third overall in the June 2025 draft. Sam Rinzel and Artyom Levshunov joined the prospect pool. Both carry +5000 odds for the Calder Trophy as rookie of the year.

The organization continues accumulating young talent. General manager Kyle Davidson prioritizes draft picks over veteran acquisitions. This approach extends the playoff drought but builds toward future competitiveness.

Projections Fall Short of Optimism

Doc Sports projects Chicago to finish under its 69.5-point total for the upcoming season. A nine-point improvement from 61 points requires substantial progress. The roster lacks depth beyond Bedard. Knight provides goaltending upgrades but needs time to develop chemistry with the defense.

The power play operated at 24.9% efficiency last season, ranking ninth in the NHL. The penalty kill performed at 79.3%, placing in the top half of teams. Special teams success couldn’t overcome even-strength deficiencies.

Veteran Assets at Trade Deadline

Chicago holds tradeable veterans that contenders might want. Moving these players at the deadline could bring back picks and prospects. Davidson has shown a willingness to make these deals in previous seasons.

The return packages matter more than wins this season. Each trade shapes the franchise’s future roster construction. Accumulating assets accelerates the rebuild timeline.

Central Division Competition Remains Steep

The Western Conference features deep playoff races. Teams finishing ninth or tenth often exceed 90 points. Chicago needs to gain 30 points from last season to enter that conversation. The math doesn’t support playoff contention this year.

Analytical Models Agree on Outlook

Hockey analytics sites project Chicago for 65-70 points this season. Their models factor in roster changes and player development. None of them project playoff contention. Most place Chicago 30th or 31st in the final standings.

Expected goals models show Chicago Blackhawks allowing more quality chances than they generate. Goaltending improvements might reduce goals against. Scoring remains the bigger concern without additional offensive talent.

Knight’s acquisition addresses one problem area. The defense lacks established veterans who can suppress shots. Young defensemen need seasoning before contributing at the NHL level. This creates gaps that opponents exploit regularly.
