Chicago Blackhawks fans are fired up over Connor Bedard and Macklin Celebrini

Connor Bedard had himself another impressive game Friday night, recording four points in the Chicago Blackhawks‘ 4-0 win in Calgary.

Bedard assisted on the first three Blackhawks goals before putting the cherry on top with a Patrick Kane-like goal late in the third period. Bedard, at the age of 20 years and 113 days, became the youngest player in the Blackhawks’ century-long history to reach 150 career points.

With that effort, Bedard enters Saturday with the second-most points in the NHL (22) behind 19-year-old San Jose Sharks phenom Macklin Celebrini’s 23.

Bedard was taken first overall in the 2023 NHL draft, and Celebrini (19) was the first taken a year later.

Let's check in on the scoring race:

2. Connor Bedard – 22 points

Blackhawks and NHL fans have been put on notice

While it’s still early in the 2025-2026 season, fans are already looking at the NHL point leaders with intrigue as two of the league’s young stars are shining brightly. Both kids were as hyped as could be coming out of their respective drafts, and fans are getting a taste of what could be.

It’s tremendous for the Blackhawks and Sharks fanbases, who have both been in the midst of grueling rebuilds. Now the fruits of their organization’s labors seem to be blossoming.

For two decades, hockey fans have watched and debated between Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin, two legends whom Bedard and Celebrini have spent their entire lives following passionately. Could we be entering the next generation’s great player debate?

A Michael Jordan and LeBron James-like discussion?

While this is not to say either Bedard or Celebrini will finish their careers with quite the same numbers as Crosby or Ovechkin, they have the opportunity to be at the top of the league. This can and should be embraced by fans and media.

It can seem annoying to constantly debate two figures tirelessly.

The Michael Jordan and LeBron James debates have worn plenty of people out, and Chicago fans are currently driving themselves nuts being in the midst of comparing Caleb Williams to other young NFL quarterbacks.

One could argue this hockey discussion feels a bit different. There will always be those who try to flex their guy over the others, but this is great for the sport. There is a seemingly great amount of respect for both players.

Bedard is putting the Blackhawks back on the map

Thanks to Bedard, and the contributions of others, the Blackhawks are making national headlines again (for good reasons). Even if the team does not quite keep pace with the record they have this year, there is absolutely a reason to tune into the games.

The same can be said for the Sharks, who just a few weeks ago had head coach Ryan Warsofsky talk about sacrificing one of his children for a win. Figuratively speaking, of course…

This point race between Bedard and Celebrini could be really fun to follow this season. Maybe it’s not Mark McGuire vs. Sammy Sosa, but something for Blackhawks and hockey fans alike to watch with interest every night.

Hopefully, this will lead to some more sellout crowds at the United Center as the season goes on. It’s worth noting that on February 2nd, the Sharks come to Chicago to face the Blackhawks, which should draw national attention.

Sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!
