The Chicago Bulls have been unable to get much momentum this season as they are a handful of games under .500 as they approach the halfway point of the NBA season. While the season may be lost, they could move on from some players to get future assets. Even though divisional opponents are less impactful in the NBA, it is still rare to see trades between teams in the same division. One writer has the Bulls trading with another team in the Central Division, so let’s take a closer look at where they send the 25-year-old guard.
The Chicago Bulls move on from Coby White and send him to the Detroit Pistons

The Athletic’s NBA Draft writer Sam Vecenie posted an article about some trades he wants to see this season. In the proposed trade between the Bulls and the Pistons, Coby White is sent to Detroit in exchange for their 2026 first-round, 2027 second-round and the 2029 second-round pick via the Milwaukee Bucks. Vecenie gives some rationale behind why he believes the Bulls would accept this deal:
“It would make sense for Chicago to cash in on a few of its unrestricted free agents this summer to bring in draft capital. The team is 18-20 and isn’t going anywhere this year. A traditional selloff of assets would better position the organization long-term to build around Josh Giddey and Matas Buzelis… Give that White is essentially a two- to four-month rental and his calf injuries, I’m not sure the Bulls should expect much better in return than a late first-round pick.”
White has been dealing with injuries and has been limited to 18 games this year. He is averaging 18.6 points, 3.4 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 0.7 steals in 28.0 minutes per game thus far. White’s shooting numbers have also been a tick down this year, posting a 45.0/31.7/80.0 shooting split, which could be partially due to the inconsistency of being on the court. It will be intriguing to see if the Bulls finally look to hit the reset button and get draft capital for future years.
