The Chicago Bulls are one of the teams that can control how the NBA trade deadline plays out. They have some players that they can move, but they also can be in acquistion mode depending on what they want to do. One of their star players is reportedly not getting the trade market the team expected to land, so let’s take a deeper dive into what is going on for the Bulls right now in the trade market.
The Chicago Bulls aren’t getting a first-round pick for Coby White right now

New York Times’s Joel Lorenzi discussed how the Bulls are not getting the compensation they believe guard White should draw to trade him away ahead of Thursday’s NBA trade deadline.
“While so few transactions have made the going for Bulls guard Coby White difficult to gauge, one league source indicated that Chicago has struggled in early attempts to net a first-round pick in a deal that might involve the seventh-year guard. Any reluctance stems from his expiring contract, the potential figure on his next deal and his nagging calf issues this season.”
White has been doing better this season than his career numbers, despite being limited to 28 games thus far. So far this season, he is averaging 18.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 0.7 steals with a 43.9/35.0/81.0 shooting split. With the inability to land a first-round pick for the veteran on the final year of his deal, it may be better for Chicago to just keep him. There is another possibility that a team will want to be more aggressive as Thursday’s trade deadline and actually offer a first-round pick.
The need for a starting guard like White to be added to a contender is worth something, but with the ability to improve the backcourt, the Bulls are staying strong with their asking price. It will be intriguing to see which team, if any, will pay that price for the guard heading to free agency.
