The Chicago Bears have some major needs heading into the legal tampering period of free agency this season. While there is a lot of focus on improving the defense, the offensive line is something that general manager Ryan Poles and his staff also need to work on improving. After doing so last offseason, there is always room for improvement. Let’s take a deeper dive into one free agent who can help and is predicted to sign with the team.
The Chicago Bears are predicted to sign offensive tackle Taylor Decker

FOX Sports’ Greg Auman wrote an article where he discusses his predictions of where the top 100 free agents will sign this offseason. One of the players he has predicted the Bears will sign is Detroit Lions offensive tackle Taylor Decker. Below is what he wrote about the reasoning he used to make this prediction:
“Decker, 32, is a reliable veteran who made the Pro Bowl in 2024 but had a more ordinary 2025. He’s missed three games in each of the last two seasons and should draw about half of the $18 million he was due to make from the Lions. The easy match is Chicago, which would reunite him with Ben Johnson and help the Bears get through injury issues at tackle.”
Pro Football Focus gave Decker a 67.9 PFF grade, which was 41st of 89 qualified offensive tackles. He allowed two sacks, three quarterback hits, and 33 quarterback pressures over the course of 551 pass-blocking snaps in 2025. Decker made the 2024 Pro Bowl, so he has shown the ability to play well and protect the quarterback, while also pairing back up with coach Ben Johnson.
With a projected $9 million contract per season, this would be a great sign for the Bears. As Ozzy Trapilo recovers from his patellar injury, this would give the left side of the offensive line a significant boost in the 2026 season. It will be intriguing to see how the Bears attack free agency.
