One of the biggest reasons the Bears dominated in takeaways was due to defensive captain and fan favorite Kevin Byard.
The 2025 leader in interceptions will be a free agent when the league year for the NFL begins next week. However as expected, the Bears have no desire to let Byard leave.

According to ESPN 1000’s David Kaplan, the chance of the Bears bringing the All-Pro safety back for 2026 is a “70-30” chance.
On his “Coffee with Kap” segment via his YouTube, Kaplan said that he was told that both the Bears and Byard are working to agree on a deal that is fair for both sides.

It seems increasingly likely that the Bears will be bringing back their star safety for what could be the start of a “Super Bowl window” in 2026.
Byard’s leadership and playmaking ability is a major value to this Bears team.
