Chicago Bears receive backlash for controversial uniform choice against Packers

On Saturday night, the Chicago Bears are looking for their first postseason victory against the Green Bay Packers since Dec. 14, 1941.

The NFC North champion Bears have not played in the postseason since the 2020 season and have not hosted a playoff game since 2018. The last time Chicago won a playoff game was in the 2010 playoffs, with a 35-24 win over the Seattle Seahawks.

The next week, the Packers beat the Bears 21-14 in the NFC championship.

Chicago is going for a bold look against Green Bay on Saturday night. On Saturday afternoon, the Bears posted their uniform combination against the Packers. The hosting Bears will wear blue tops and blue pants.

The Bears have an ugly history against Green Bay with the all-blue look, losing four contests against their NFC North rival since the early 2000s. The Packers most recently beat the Bears 35-14 on Sept. 28, 2017 on “Thursday Night Football” wearing the color rush combination.

Chicago fans on X voiced their worry about the look, fearing the team is inviting a curse against Green Bay in the wild-card round.

“The moment is already big enough. You don’t have to do anything to make it ‘special’,” wrote a fan.

“Are those blue pants?? You have got to be kidding me,” posted another.

“Noooooooooo! Navy on white always,” argued a fan.

“Regular season is over. They have honored Virginias request of no alternates  it’s a new season now bring on the possibilities,” wrote another.

“No don’t do it. Smarten up. You still have time to do that before game starts,” suggested a poster.

“the bears have lost their last two playoff games wearing their standard navy-over-white home unis. they are 3-5 in them in the playoffs since 2001. i can see why they’re trying something different here,” wrote a fan hoping for a different outcome than the Bears’ loss to the Eagles in 2018.
The Bears don’t need to focus on the history of the uniform, they need to worry about the Packers. But for the fan base, they’re going to be cringing throughout the game watching that combination knowing what the history of those blue jerseys and blue pants have done in recent history.
