The Chicago White Sox have a lot of exciting players on a young team. They have some quality pitching that does not have that premier ace, but they have some middle-of-the-rotation depth throughout their rotation. Where does the White Sox pitching staff rank compared to the rest of the sport? Let’s take a look where one outlet believes that to be.
The Chicago White Sox’s pitching staff ranks 27th according to Bleacher Report

Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter created a list where he ranked all 30 MLB pitching staffs. Despite making some quality additions, the White Sox are fourth-lowest at 27th place. Below is Reuter’s explanation of where Chicago found itself:
“Shane Smith, Davis Martin and Sean Burkes emerged as a useful trio of arms for the rebuilding White Sox last year. The gaps have been filled around them with free agents Anthony Kay and Erick Fedde. Top prospects Noah Schultz and Tanner McDougal should also arrive at some point in 2026, while reliever Grant Taylor has huge breakout potential with some of the best pure stuff in baseball. There’s upside here for this to be a top 20 group, but they are lacking in true impact talent.”
To put their ranking in perspective, below are the bottom five teams in the majors on this list:
- 26: Athletics
- 27: Chicago White Sox
- 28: Los Angeles Angels
- 29: Colorado Rockies
- 30: Washington Nationals
He mentioned that this list took into account impact talent, rotation quality, depth, and back-end bullpen excellence. The pitching staff has to show the ability to step up throughout the season, as the young pitchers can struggle. As a core, they should be able to climb up this list as the season progresses. However, Opening Day proved there is still some work to be done before feeling confident on the mound.
Chicago has some strong talent, but without that top-of-the-rotation star, things are a bit questionable. However, they have significantly improved their bullpen with five new arms, including closer Seranthony Dominguez. Manager Will Venable will need to deploy his bullpen in the right situations. If he can do that and the pitching staff delivers, they can surprise a lot of people.
