The Chicago Bears have received respect for rebuilding the team and turning things around quickly. Winning the NFC North and winning a playoff game this season showed other franchises that the Bears have the tools to be successful for a long time. However, they will be without one of their key front office personnel as he has accepted a position with another team. Let’s take a closer look at all the details about the move.
Ian Cunningham is named as the Atlanta Falcons’ general manager

ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that the Atlanta Falcons have hired Chicago Bears assistant general manager Ian Cunningham to become the team’s next general manager. This is something that has been rumored, but Cunningham will finally get the general manager position after years of interviews. This is going to be intriguing to see how he does as after weeks of interviews, he has been selected for the position.
Cunningham was a finalist in the Jacksonville Jaguars and Washington Commanders general manager searches over the last few years, and even turned down the position with the Arizona Cardinals. He was with the Bears from 2022-25 as the assistant general manager, but has worked in the NFL since going undrafted in the 2008 draft and transitioning to the front office.
It is not known at this point who will replace Cunningham for the Bears, but this shows how well of a job he has done to make Chicago a viable destination for winning. Now, general manager Ryan Poles will need to figure out a new right-hand man for the front office. Cunningham was considered a secondary football executive, meaning the Bears will not receive a compensation pick as a result of this hire. It will be interesting to see how he does as a general manager and what the Bears do going forward to fill that void in the front office.
