The Chicago White Sox have been one of the more active teams thus far this offseason, with their latest move coming as a trade with the Boston Red Sox for right-hander Jordan Hicks and pitching prospect David Sandlin.

Though the White Sox have made headlines with some of their moves this offseason, they have also made some under-the-radar moves, like sending infielder/outfielder Bryan Ramos to the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for cash considerations, according to the Orioles X (Twitter) account.

The Chicago White Sox are shedding their old players to make way for new ones to add to what they’re building

Ramos, 23, has been with the White Sox since 2018 when he signed a minor league deal at 16. However, Ramos never found his footing with the White Sox, spending parts of two seasons with the big league club (36 games), with the majority of his career coming in the minor leagues, where he hit .249 with an OPS of .757 in six seasons; at the big league level, Ramos hit .198 with an OPS of .577.
Ramos will add valuable depth to a deep Orioles roster, which includes All-Star first baseman Pete Alonso, but he will have to compete for a bench role if he wants to make the big league roster.
The White Sox jettisoning Ramos shows they’re willingness to build around their young core and find better options available to add depth.
