The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have been one of the most dominant teams this season behind running back Jeremiyah Love’s excellence. He has been able to place himself into the conversation for a Heisman Trophy finalist and made history in Week 14. There is a lot of excitement regarding the team and what he was able to do, so let’s take a deeper dive into the history Love made and discuss what it means for the program.
Jeremiyah Love Sets Touchdown Record for Notre Dame

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have been one of the top offensive teams in the entire country and were able to showcase that early on against the Stanford Cardinal in Week 14. One of the reasons for the success has been running back Jeremiyah Love, who has been one of, if not the, best running back in college football this year. While on the opening drive of the game, the Fighting Irish were able to march down the field and Love was able to run in the football for a two-yard touchdown.

That would be the 21st touchdown of the season for Jeremiyah Love, which surpassed Jerome Bettis’ 20 total touchdown season in the 1991 season, for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish program record. Entering Week 14, Notre Dame was 18th in college football with 204.9 rushing yards per game as a team. Love has been able to be a threat in both the receiving and rushing game as he now has 18 rushing touchdowns while also recording three touchdown receptions.
He still has the entire second half of the game against the Stanford Cardinal to potentially put some more on the record, but this is a record that will be difficult to see broken. To break things down even further, Love has recorded at least one touchdown in every game outside of their opening game against the Miami Hurricanes. He has been one of the significant reasons why Notre Dame is currently in the College Football Playoff hunt, so it is difficult to imagine where they would be without him.
