The Chicago Bears committed several unnecessary penalties against the Green Bay Packers.

The Bears were flagged four times for a personal foul. Overall, Chicago was the more penalized team with 10 penalties for 105 yards. The Packers were only flagged four times for 40 yards in the Bears’ 22-16 win in overtime.
Chicago defensive end Austin Booker was flagged twice for roughing the passer. His second penalty caused enormous consequences for both teams, as Packers quarterback Jordan Love was knocked out of the game with a concussion.
Booker appeared to be aiming for Love’s chest to complete the tackle. However, Love ducked his head, and Booker made helmet-to-helmet contact with the quarterback.

Chicago Bears HC defends Austin Booker

More News: Bears’ Caleb Williams has message for Packers after comeback win
Per Jason Lieser of the Chicago Sun-Times, Johnson told reporters on Monday that he understood why the officials had to call a penalty. At the same time, he defended Booker, saying it’s hard to coach the defensive end to do anything different there because of how fast that play happened.
“Bears coach Ben Johnson says of DE Austin Booker’s head-to-head hit that concussed Packers QB Jordan Love, it’s a little hard to coach because it’s ‘a bang-bang play,’ but it’s ‘100% a penalty’ and the injury to Love ‘is not what anybody wants,'” Lieser posted on X.
Love chose not to protect himself and lowered his head before Booker made contact. It’s an easy way for an offensive player to gain a cheap 15 yards. It’s also a good way to lose teeth.
Frankly, the result is more of a lesson for Love than Booker.
