The past 36 hours or so have been interesting for the Chicago Bulls and head coach Billy Donovan. After a report from the Chicago Sun-Times hinted that Donovan could resign from the franchise, the head coach was then connected to the open North Carolina job.
Donovan continues to be a hot name in North Carolina’s new coaching search. Whether he’s seriously interested or is a legit candidate is still to be determined. But even with this news, players hear it. On Wednesday, the Bulls responded with a historically bad quarter against the Philadelphia 76ers.
And it wasn’t pretty.
Chicago Bulls, Billy Donovan make history in a bad way

We know the Bulls are in a rebuild. They did it too late, which means probably another few more years of struggling. Will Donovan want to be a part of that? The team certainly looked disinterested in Wednesday’s loss to the 76ers.
In that loss, the Bulls gave up a franchise record 51 points in the third quarter. They eventually lost the game 157-137, giving up the most points they have all season.

Yikes.
Wednesday’s game may not have fully been a response to the Donovan rumors but this team flat out looked bad. Piling up the loses is usually a good thing for a team trying to get into the lottery. The only problem? The Bulls are going to be sitting 9th or 10th due to them winning early games this season.
It’s unlikely the Bulls can get to the 8th spot in the lottery and it looks like they will need a miracle to move up. Add in a potential looming decision from Donovan and it’s shaping up to be another interesting offseason.
