WNBA: Chicago Sky’s Angel Reese-Caitlin Clark decision draws statement from Fever

The individual matchup between Chicago Sky star Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever is still widely considered the WNBA’s biggest rivalry. There was a shortage of action between the two big-name stars last season, though, with Clark missing a significant part of the season due to injury.

Clark played just 13 games in 2025. She faced off against Reese and the Sky just once out of the five Sky-Fever matchups last season. The former Iowa Hawkeyes star led Indiana to a 93-58 blowout win over Chicago in their season-opener on May 17. Clark was out for their next four meetings, but the Fever still swept the season series, 5-0.

Angel Reese, Chicago Sky face Caitlin Clark, Indiana Fever three times in 2026

The WNBA recently released its 2026 season schedule. Unsurprisingly, there was a lot of attention on the Sky-Fever matchups. There was a significant difference in the number of games between the two sides, though. Reese and Clark will face off just three times this coming season, two fewer games than in 2025.

The Sky will host two out of the three games. Interestingly, only one of those matchups will be played at United Center, which has double the capacity (around 20,000) of the Sky’s usual home stadium, Wintrust Arena. Last season, both Sky-Fever matchups in Chicago were upgraded to United Center. For some reason, the team decided not to move one out of the two games this season.

The Aug. 8 matchup between Chicago and Indiana will be played at United Center. The rematch on Aug. 23, however, will take place at Wintrust Arena. It is unclear why the Sky made this decision.

A representative from the Fever issued a statement on the matter at hand.

“We can’t speak to what other teams may do in terms of venue changes,” a Fever spokesperson told Front Office Sports.

Apart from the Sky, a few other teams in the league also decided against moving their home games against the Fever to bigger arenas. This is despite the fact that the Fever generated some of the largest crowds for their games last season — both at home and on the road.

As the Fever’s statement said, however, they have no control over how opposing teams make their decision on game venues. Either way, Clark and Co. will come to town with the intention of securing a road win.
