The Chicago Bears made a handful of free agent signings last offseason that helped the franchise take a massive step in the right direction this year. With the team being able to step up this season, they saw some players take a massive step forward. Chicago was solid with their free agent additions, so let’s take a look at what one publication claimed was the team’s best addition from the previous offseason.
Drew Dalman was named the Chicago Bears’ best free agent signing of last offseason
In an article discussing each team’s best and worst free agent signings from last year, Pro Football Focus’s Bradley Locker wrote that center Drew Dalman is the Bears’ best free agent signing.
“The Bears’ offensive line was one of the top in the NFL, and it started in the middle with Dalman’s excellence. The former Falcon ranked seventh among qualified centers with a 72.7 overall PFF grade, and his 0.31 Wins Above Replacement were the third-most.”
In March 2025, Dalman signed a three-year, $42 million contract with $28 million being guaranteed. Dalman played in 1,154 offensive snaps during the season and recorded just three penalties and allowed one sack. There is a reason Chicago’s center was named as a starter for the 2026 Pro Bowl. Dalman has showcased the ability to keep the center of the offensive line going strong as he can help either interior offensive lineman with protection. Because of Dalman, the Bears have been able to ask quarterback Caleb Williams to do more with additional time in the pocket or open up holes for the run game.
With Chicago investing in its offensive line last season, it will be intriguing to see how the team is able to continue to improve the roster heading into the 2026 offseason.
