The Chicago White Sox are in a position where they can surprise people this season with their young core gaining more experience. With the trades they have made, the front office has targeted the next few years as a chance to get games under their belt and begin improving. After a 60-102 record last season, the team is looking to improve. Let’s take a look at how one player is drawing a lot of interest from another American League franchise, but the White Sox aren’t interested.

The Chicago White Sox are not interested in trading back Kyle Teel to Boston

While making an appearance on Monday’s episode of The Mully and Haugh Show on 670 The Score, White Sox general manager Chris Getz explained how he has no interest in trading catcher Kyle Teel back to the Boston Red Sox.

“Yeah, it’s an emoji return. What are we doing here? Yeah, teams can ask for anyone, right. I mean, sure, go at it. It’s just a matter of how much attention you’re gonna give it on the reply. So yeah, that one, I think it’s interesting, it’s wild that you can trade someone and you want him back that quickly. However, [Teel] is a left-handed catcher who can hit. He’s got zone control. He’s got some pop. He’s athletic as hell. He’s got a good arm, and he can run. It’s a unique skill set for that position. So it’s unique, it’s gold. So yeah, certainly didn’t take it very seriously when they reached out.”

The Red Sox originally had Teel, but he was one of the four players traded to the White Sox in the Garrett Crochet trade last December. Teel played in 78 games at the big-league level last season as a rookie and slashed .273/.375/.411 with eight homers, 35 RBI, 38 runs scored, and three steals on four attempts. He also threw out 17.9 percent of runners attempting to steal (10-56). There were reports of this trade request last week, but this is the first time Getz discussed it publicly.

What should we expect out of Kyle Teel in the 2026 season?

Teel has showcased his ability to do well in the majors and should have no issues as the top of the lineup for the White Sox. He has proven to be one of the best players on the team and should continue to develop. With the left-handed bat, he adds lineup versatility to Chicago and should be a fixture at the top of the lineup on a daily basis. He should continue to improve on the power numbers as well with more experience.

Teel is a valuable asset with barely any service time accrued, so he is a building block for the next iteration of White Sox baseball.
