The Notre Dame Fighting Irish entered the transfer portal knowing they would have to make some major additions, and while defensive tackle seems to be the team’s most glaring hole, they could also use another wide receiver, especially with Malachi Fields departing.
Notre Dame’s top target? Former Michigan State Spartans receiver Nick Marsh, who is the seventh-ranked wide receiver in the portal (and that feels a bit low).
Of course, Marsh is in high demand, so the Fighting Irish will be facing stiff competition for his services.
LSU and Indiana seem to be the top two contenders for Marsh outside of Notre Dame, and Ryan Roberts of A to Z Sports has provided an update in that regard. And it’s an update that will have Fighting Irish fans pumped.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish could be the favorites to land Nick Marsh

For as much as Indiana needs another wide receiver, Roberts has reported that the Hoosiers seem to be third in the running for Marsh even after his visit to Indy, which means this could be a two-horse race between Notre Dame and LSU.
Robert seems to believe the Fighting Irish could have the edge.
“I’m told that Notre Dame will be very aggressive for Marsh, and that includes from a money perspective,” Roberts wrote. “Marsh will demand a substantial amount of money. The staff understands this and will remain competitive as final offers come in. This is a Notre Dame-LSU battle right now, but the Irish have a very real chance. Hitting that official visit out of the park this week will be the key.”
Marsh spent two seasons at Michigan State and is coming off of a 2025 campaign in which he hauled in 59 receptions for 662 yards and six touchdowns. He posted similar numbers during his freshman year, finishing with 41 catches for 649 yards and three scores.
Keep in mind that the 6-foot-3 weapon achieved those stats with a rather shaky quarterback situation, as Aidan Chiles has been a pretty significant disappointment in Lansing.
Notre Dame, on the other hand, has budding star CJ Carr under center. A Carr-Marsh duo could be lethal, and with LSU still sorting out its own circumstances at signal-caller, the Fighting Irish could hold a pretty significant advantage here.
We’ll see if Marsh ultimately takes his talents to South Bend.
