The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have largely been getting shut out in the transfer portal, and with teams starting to load up on the top players, it’s starting to become very concerning for Marcus Freeman and Co.
However, there is still time for Notre Dame to save face in the portal, and there is one player in particular the Fighting Irish should be heavily pursuing: former Ohio State Buckeyes wide receiver Quincy Porter.
Porter entered the transfer portal earlier in the week, and not surprisingly, Notre Dame was instantly pitched as a potential landing spot for the former five-star recruit. Remember: the Fighting Irish were one of the top destinations for Nick Marsh, too, only to watch him sign with Indiana.
It’s time for Freeman to put the pedal to the metal and add Porter to salvage what has been a nightmarish to start to the offseason in South Bend.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish must add Quincy Porter in the transfer portal

Porter appeared to have a bright future at Ohio State, but with the Buckeyes bringing in fellow five-star commit Chris Henry Jr. to play alongside of Jeremiah Smith in 2026, Porter decided he no longer wanted to remain patient in Columbus after logging just four catches for 59 yards this season.
Notre Dame certainly needs Porter’s more than Ohio State. That’s for sure.
Top wide receiver Malachi Fields is entering the NFL Draft, and while Jordan Faison appear to be returning, the Fighting Irish seriously lack depth behind him.
Yes, four-star receiver Micah Gilbert should receive more playing time next fall, and Notre Dame is importing five wide outs — including three four-star prospects — in its 2026 recruiting class. But there is no question that the Fighting Irish could use another body.

At 6-foot-4, 210 pounds and with tremendous athletic ability, the Oradell, N.J. native could ultimately become a stud before long.
With the Fighting Irish already having budding star CJ Carr under center, a match between Porter and South Bend seems like a perfect fit.
