Angel Reese’s second season with the Chicago Sky was impressive.

The 23-year-old was named an All-Star for a second consecutive year behind averages of 14.7 points on 45.8% shooting, a WNBA-best 12.6 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.5 steals in 31.6 minutes per contest.

Despite Reese’s strong play, Chicago still finished with a 10-34 record. They ranked last among the 13 WNBA teams, tied with Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings.

It was Reese’s first season with head coach Tyler Marsh. The 38-year-old was named as the Sky’s head coach ahead of the 2025 season. He was the successor of WNBA Hall of Famer Teresa Weatherspoon, who was fired after just one year with the Sky.

Weatherspoon was Reese’s head coach when the latter first entered the league. The two-time WNBA Defensive Player of the Year played a pivotal role in Reese’s development as a rookie. The two form a closed bond during their one season together. So much so that Reese was devastated when she learned about Weatherspoon’s exit.

“I’m heartbroken,” Reese posted on X in September 2024. “I’m literally lost for words knowing what this woman meant to me in such a pivotal point in my life. She was the only person that believed in me. The one that trusted me. Many don’t even know what it’s like to be a black women in sports when nobody believes in you.

“… I’ll never question God why he brings people in my life and takes them away from me in the capacity that I need them but i’ve always believed everyone is in your life for a reason and a season. You were the best reason & season. You didn’t deserve this but I can’t thank you enough. I love you Tspoon.”

Reese recently reunited with her former coach. Weatherspoon was Reese’s special guest in the latter’s podcast, “Unapologeitcally Angel.” The latest episode of the show dropped on Friday.

The two had a lengthy conversation that covered a variety of topics, including their time together in Chicago. They could not help but reminisce about better days.

Weatherspoon is currently the head coach of Vinyl Basketball Club in the Unrivaled league. The 60-year-old is coaching Vinly for a second straight season. They are looking to make amends after losing to Rose Basketball Club, Reese’s team, in last season’s inaugural Unrivaled championship.

Reese, however, opted out of the second season of Unrivaled this year. She reportedly wanted to focus on rehabbing her back injury, which forced her to sit out the last four games of the previous WNBA season.
