Sophie Cunningham earned widespread attention in 2025 as a veteran leader and top performer for the Indiana Fever. The 29-year-old Missouri native joined Indiana in January 2025 through a high-profile trade from the Phoenix Mercury. She quickly became a vital leader for the Fever’s roster.
Cunningham became known as the Fever’s enforcer for protecting the squad and refusing to back down from physical play. She also provided exceptional perimeter shooting, giving her teammates more room to drive.
In her debut season with Indiana, the veteran guard appeared in 30 games. She achieved career-best shooting of 46.9% from the field and 43.2% from three-point range. Cunningham helped the Fever win the 2025 WNBA Commissioner’s Cup and finish with a 24-20 record—the best in franchise history.

However, Cunningham’s season came to an abrupt end after she suffered a tear in her right MCL. The injury, which occurred during a game against the Connecticut Sun in August, sidelined her for the rest of the campaign. Cunningham is now focusing on rehabilitation and physical therapy to prepare for the new WNBA season.
