The Chicago White Sox are looking for ways to improve after one of the worst two-year spans in MLB history. While the team is in a rebuilding process, it is difficult to attract significant free agents. However, the team can still be in the market for free agents looking to up their value and get some chances throughout the season. Let’s take a closer look as one free agent pitcher has been getting some interest from the Chicago White Sox.
The Chicago White Sox are showing interest in Pete Fairbanks

Scott Merkin of MLB is reporting that the Chicago White Sox have shown “preliminary interest” in free agent reliever Pete Fairbanks. Fairbanks has spent all but 21 games of his career with the Tampa Bay Rays and has showcased an ability to step up. Last season, he appeared in 61 games and was 4-5 with a 2.83 ERA and an 18:59 walk-to-strikeout ratio in 60.1 innings. He can be a valuable pitcher in the back-end of the bullpen if he joins the White Sox as he can be a veteran leader in a bullpen with zero pitchers with at least three years of MLB service time.
Fairbanks’ fastball averaged 97.3 MPH last season and his four-pitch arsenal keeps hitters off-balanced. He is predominantly a fastball and slider pitcher and does a good job of keeping the ball in the park. With Jordan Leasure and Grant Taylor in the later innings, Fairbanks can step up and fill a void in either a setup or closer role. There is no shortage of suitors as a handful of teams have shown interest in the righty.
If he were to sign with the Chicago White Sox this offseason, it also puts him in a position where he is able to be in trade talks throughout the MLB Trade Deadline anyways. It will be intriguing to see if the team sends an offer to him and if it is something the righty will consider.
