The Chicago White Sox are expected to be an intriguing team heading into the 2026 season. They have some new additions who are expected to shine as the young roster develops. There is a lot of intrigue with how this team does with their young talent. One outlet had a bold prediction for one of the players, so let’s take a look at who it is and the prediction.
CBS Sports predicts Munetaka Murakami will win the 2026 Home Run Derby

Munetaka Murakami has been one of the more interesting players as he prepares to make his MLB debut. Mike Axisa of CBS Sports wrote an article making bold predictions for all 30 teams. For the White Sox, his prediction does not take place until the All-Star break. Axisa’s prediction sees Murakami winning the 2026 Home Run Derby, and he explains it below:
“The Murakami signing was my favorite move of the offseason. That doesn’t mean I think it was the best move of the offseason, but I love the rebuilding ChiSox rolling the dice on a 26-year-old with enormous, game-changing power. There is major swing-and-miss risk I know, but two years and $34 million is nothing. It’s a potential steal, and if things don’t work out, the White Sox can walk away in 18 months. Anyway, this bold prediction says Murakami will get a chance to showcase his power at the Home Run Derby in July and he’ll win the thing. He would be the first Japenese-born player to do so.”
Murakami is expected to be a solid contender of the AL Rookie of the Year Award this season as well. He has showcased his power numbers with 265 career hme runs across the Japanese leagues and the World Baseball Classic. He has hit two homers since joining the White Sox (one Spring Training, one World Baseball Classic). It will be intriguing to see how his power stroke looks against MLB pitching.
