Meidroth’s home run didn’t just give the White Sox the lead to begin the game, but made some history as well. In the White Sox’s 125 seasons as a Major League franchise, no player has hit a leadoff home run to begin the season until Meidroth.

In 122 games last season (450 at-bats), Meidroth hit five home runs. Meidroth hit only one in 54 at-bats this spring. Baseball Reference projects that the 24-year-old will hit eight this season.
Power is not Chase Meidroth’s game

Whatever the number of home runs Meiroth will finish with will be fine, as he is not a power hitter. Meidroth’s game is getting on base and walking, posting a .329 on-base percentage last season and walking 45 times.
Meidroth, in 2024, while with the Boston Red Sox organization, walked 105 times in Triple-A and struck out 71 times. As Will Venable’s leadoff hitter, Meidroth will need to continue to set the table for the White Sox for them to be successful.
