The Chicago White Sox have a great young core and prospects developing to add to it, with one prospect, infielder Sam Antonacci (White Sox 11th prospect), who may force his way onto the Opening Day roster.

Antonacci is a local product, hailing from Springfield, Illinois, and the White Sox drafted him in the fifth round of the 2024 MLB Draft out of Coastal Carolina University.

Antonacci has the knack for the ball to find him, and not in the field, but as a target when at the plate, getting hit by a pitch 39 times in 2025 and walking 69 times. Having a great ability to get on base (.439 career on-base percentage), Antonacci showcased his hitting skills, batting .291, and his speed, swiping 48 bases (getting caught 10 times).
Antonacci has brought those talents into White Sox camp this spring, batting .308 with two home runs and three RBI, while stealing three bases (hasn’t been caught), walking three times, and hit by a pitch twice. The 23-year-old recently left camp to join Team Italy along with his teammate, catcher Kyle Teel, to play in the World Baseball Classic (WBC). The WBC will take place from March 5 to 17, and will be in Japan, the United States, and Puerto Rico.
Depending on how well Antonacci does during the World Baseball Classic, where he’ll see some major-league-caliber arms, and the rest of spring training, he could force the White Sox to add him to the 26-man roster. With the White Sox needing a starting third baseman, Antonacci could work his way into a platoon role with third baseman Miguel Vargas, who showed some signs of growth at the plate last season.
