The Chicago Cubs are looking to have a special 2026 season with the roster they curated. This team is in a position to be a major contender, and the World Series aspirations are not far-fetched. After trading for Edward Cabrera and signing Alex Bregman, there is a great feeling at Wrigleyville. One outlet posted its power rankings, and let’s take a look at where Chicago landed.
The Chicago Cubs are fifth in Bleacher Report’s power rankings heading into the 2026 season

The Cubs are ready to get the regular season going as they are one of the top teams in baseball. Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter created a power ranking for all 30 teams heading into 2026 Opening Day. Reuter placed the Cubs in fifth place on the list and second for National League teams. Below is the snippet he wrote explaining what they have done:
“The Cubs looked like the best team in baseball at times during the first half last season, but they coasted to a 35-31 record after the All-Star break and fell in the NLDS. New addition Alex Bregman will immediately become a driving voice in the clubhouse and a key bat to replace Kyle Tucker in the lineup. A rebuilt bullpen with four newcomers will be an X-factor after last year’s group came together as a strength.”
To understand what these power rankings mean, below is the top 10 teams from the Bleacher Report power rankings:
- Los Angeles Dodgers
- Toronto Blue Jays
- New York Mets
- Seattle Mariners
- Chicago Cubs
- New York Yankees
- Boston Red Sox
- Philadelphia Phillies
- Detroit Tigers
- Baltimore Orioles
Chicago is stepping up with their bullpen additions, something that is undervalued by the traditional fan. The Cubs have to overcome the back-to-back World Series Champion Dodgers in order to make the World Series themselves. They took a step in the right direction last year, but are in a position to do even better in 2026. It will be interesting to see how the Cubs do in 2026 and if they climb the power rankings.
