The Cubs roster stands at 38 on Sunday, meaning the team will need to shed a total of seven players from their major league roster before opening day.
Chicago will open its season at Wrigley Field on Thursday against the Washington Nationals.
On Sunday, the Cubs made a significant roster move as they figure out how to put their major league puzzle together to start the season.
Per the Cubs, right-handed pitchers Collin Snider and Corbin Martin were returned to minor league camp. Infielder Jonathan Long was returned to minor league camp.

Snider, 30, appeared in eight games during spring training. He earned a 1-0 record, with an ERA of 4.50 in 8.0 innings pitched. He allowed four earned runs, six hits, and struck out 11 batters.
Martin appeared in eight games and earned an ERA of 7.04. He allowed seven hits and six earned runs in 7.2 innings pitched. He walked five batters and struck out 10 batters.
First baseman Long appeared in nine games. He had 21 at-bats, earning seven hits and scoring five runs. He batted .333/.444/.476 in spring training with one home run.
The Cubs are 12-16 in spring training this season. They had a 3-0 lead over the Milwaukee Brewers in the third inning of Sunday’s game.
Following Sunday’s contest, Chicago will finish its spring training by playing a two-game series against the New York Yankees on Monday and Tuesday.
Then the real season starts, and the Cubs will have a much smaller roster than the one that took on the Brewers on Sunday.
