The Chicago Cubs have been one of the more intriguing teams as the 2026 season begins. They have some incredible talent throughout their roster and expect to be in the hunt for the World Series this season. There are a lot of things that need to go right for that to happen. What does one outlet believe is the best-case scenario for the roster? Let’s take a closer look at what they said and why they believe that.

The best-case scenario for the Chicago Cubs is to have their starting pitching pan out

Bleacher Report’s Tim Kelly wrote an article discussing the best-case scenario for each team. For the Cubs, he highlighted having the starting rotation pan out. Below is what he wrote about the team:

Not many teams have a wider varience in possible outcomes with their starting rotation in 2026 than Craig Counsell and the Cubs. In the best-case scenario, a rotation made up of Matthew Boyd, Cade Horton, Shota Imanaga, Edward Cabrera and Jameson Taillon-with Justin Steele also working his way back from the left elbow surgery he had last April-could be really good… Certainly, though, if the rotation that president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer has assembled can stay healthy, there will be playoff games at Wrigley Field this October.”

The Cubs saw the team finish eighth in starting pitcher ERA in 2025, so this would certainly be a great sign. Adding Edward Cabrera to the rotation is great, but there are some depth concerns with this rotation as well. Chicago’s rotation looks good on paper, but how they look early in the season can be a sign. With Chicago making changes to its lineup and bullpen, the starting pitching has the most variance. It will be intriguing to see how the starting rotation looks throughout the 2026 season.
