The Chicago Cubs have one of the most talented pitching staffs in Major League Baseball. They are expected to be one of the best teams in the sport, and the pitching staff has a lot of quality arms. But where do they rank in terms of pitching staffs in the sport? Let’s take a closer look at where one outlet is ranking the Cubs’ pitching this season.
Bleacher Report ranks the Chicago Cubs’ pitching staff outside of the top 10

Josh Reuter of Bleacher Report had the task of ranking all 30 MLB pitching staffs. While the team made some additions, Chicago found itself just outside the top 10 in 11th place. Below is the reasoning he gave for the positioning of the team:
“The Cubs didn’t land the bona fide ace this offseason, but there’s still a lot to like about a rotation of Matthew Boyd, Cade Horton, Shota Imanaga, Jameson Taillon and newcomer Edward Cabrera. They will also have 2023 All-Star Justin Steele back at some point in 2026. Flame-throwing Daniel Palencia is poised to join the ranks of baseball’s elite closers. Veterans Hunter Harvey and Phil Maton were signed to bridge the setup gap.”
To put in perspective what this ranking means, below are the 10-15 rankings that Reuter posted:
- 10: New York Mets
- 11: Chicago Cubs
- 12: San Diego Padres
- 13: Pittsburgh Pirates
- 14: Toronto Blue Jays
- 15: Houston Astros
The Cubs traded prospects to the Miami Marlins to acquire Edward Cabrera and improve the starting rotation. The team also added four bullpen arms in Phil Maton, Hunter Harvey, Jacob Webb, and Hoby Milner. Reuter mentioned his rankings were based off starting pitchers, bullpen, and organizational depth. With an injured Justin Steele returning this season, it will be intriguing to see how the pitching staff does in 2026.
