The Chicago Cubs have had a tough beginning to the regular season, losing two of three games to the Washington Nationals. However, this team is still very talented and should be able to get back on track in the early portion of the season. One outlet had them move in the early power rankings, so let’s see where they stand now.
The Chicago Cubs drop one spot on Bleacher Report’s MLB power rankings

Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter released the latest MLB power rankings following the first weekend of the 2026 regular season. The Cubs fell one spot as they are now in the sixth spot after losing two of three games at home against the Washington Nationals to begin the season. Below is what he wrote about the team’s rankings:
“A series loss to a Nationals team most expect to take up residence in the NL East cellar is a less-than-ideal way for the Cubs to start the season, but they did look sharp in a 10-2 victory on Saturday. It was a much more successful week for the front office, as they hammered out extensions for Pete Crow-Armstrong and Nico Hoerner.”
The team was also placed in the second tier of teams. Below are the six teams that were placed in the second tier of the power rankings in order of their power rankings:
- New York Yankees
- New York Mets
- Seattle Mariners
- Chicago Cubs
- Boston Red Sox
- Philadelphia Phillies
The Cubs have some tough lineups to navigate as they have three home games against the Los Angeles Angels before going on the road for three games against the Cleveland Guardians. It will be intriguing to see if they can crack the top five once again this time next week.
